May 6, 2009 - Steve Anderson
The past week, for the first time in nearly 6 months, I sweated as I was giving lessons out at River Hall. As I wiped my eyes every few swings I quickly realized that the summer heat is just around the corner and our cool weather is gone until next November. The good news though is summer in SW Florida brings bargains galore on the golf course, less crowds and much lower green fee prices. Most courses are now charging only $25-35.00 for 18 holes which is a big difference from the near $100.00 rate in season. Some courses also a late afternoon rate too which is even more affordable. I see that Mirror Lakes is once again offering their monday afternoon golf league which is a bargain and fun for all. Most all our local courses offer discounts with the warm weather so take advantage of the less crowded courses and start playing again.
Most pros, myself included, also offer special reduced prices on golf instruction over the summer and it's a great time to take those lessons you've been wanting so you'll be ready to play your best golf when your northen friends return next fall. Most area courses also offer junior clinics for the kids which is a great way to introduce youngsters to the game. CAlling your local pro shop is all it takes to register your child for a summer program. At my course we are offering two seperate sessions for juniors, one in June and the other in July. Our staff assistant pro Nick Koulouris will be conducting the sessions and he's wonderful with the kids and is a fine instructor. His contact phone is; 239 823-3414.
So, dress as cool as you can, shine up your clubs, and get yourself out playing again.
