Becoming Debt Free
December 27, 2011 - Lisa Goehle
2012 is just around the bend and if you are like many, you have already started to plan the changes you want to make in the New Year. Many are thinking about getting their finances in order and pay off the credit cards used at Christmas. Are you are wondering what organization are available to assist you in becoming debt free? Remember there are many organizations who claim you can be debt free but in the fine print you will see they only promise to assist with 60-75% of the debt and the remaining is up to you. You will need to do some research to see which company is best for your needs. Selecting a credit counseling organization is a long term obligation and should be entered into with an open mind and a clear understanding of your obligations and theirs.
Consumer credit organizations are available in the Lee County area. You do not have to use an on-line or agency that advertises on the television. It is always in your best interest to be able to go and sit down with a credit counselor so that you are fully aware of your obligations.
Also remember any company that sends you a Power of Attorney in the mail and tells you to sign it and mail it is back is a “red flag “don’t be tricked into giving up your rights.
While the credit counselors are very knowledgeable about the ways to get your credit back on track you can always try working with your credit companies yourself. If is important to know what you owe and just want your income is to see if you can make payments without the assistance of an outside agency.
All credit counseling companies are under the watch of Consumer Services under the office of the Governor and can be found on the internet, at www.fl.gov.
I wish all the readers a wonderful and blessed New Year.
