Negotiations Butcher? The county will hand you the unincorporated tax revenue, a paltry amount from the gas and sales tax and they will want to know the take over date to get your city going. That's it. I was told by a commissioner that Lehigh is many years away from being a city despite people like you spinning stories about the "joys of cityhood". The money is not here like it is in Estero and I don't trust the assorted crazies, crooks and bored senior citizens who all want jobs that we will have to pay for.
Luckily for me you will lose any vote. If you think Lehigh is such a dump why not move to Cape Coral. You might like it better there.
mother - no doubt revenues will have to be raised - Lehigh is a "pay me now or pay me later" victim - the roads and utility (water & sewer) have been grossly neglected by the county for years and that's where the money and agreements with current taxing bodies must be negotiated - as for your bridge, sorry - I already own a few
Sorry Butch. You don't get much gas tax and that is for roads. Sales tax? Might get some but the vast majority of the sales tax is from the coastal areas with the malls, tourist areas. If you believe what you are saying then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. We will be taxed at a high mil rate. I don't want to pay another 600/700 a year for a bunch of boobs who want to play city.
it is a shame that the county "pushed the blight" east - not good for the appearance of a town - even though a house may be rented or vacant someone is paying taxes whether it be on time or delinquent - there are other revenue avenues that come into play also such as sales tax - motor fuel tax - etc. - again - if you have a vision of Lehigh 20 years from now do you want to leave it to the county to decide or the residents of Lehigh - gain will certainly not come without pain - ten years ago everything was flying high - maybe it's better to "start at the bottom"
The money is just not there. Period. It is the same old same old from Rick and Ruth and their henchman Anderson. I also saw the Merchant Marketer and the numbers look real bad for a city. I will bet Lee County would like to ditch us. The taxes on the property will go up. Way up. To say anything different is a lie.
Incorporate? Incorporate what? Lehigh is nothing but an oversized flea market. What's the point. If you're looking for tax $ you won't find any here. If 1/4 of the homes in Lehigh are being lived in by an actual mortgage paying resident, I would be surprised. The rest are renters, squatters, govt. Housing or vacant. Incorporation should have happened 10 or so yrs ago if it should have happened at all. I'm a 33 yr resident and have seen what has become of this town. It's disgusting! If Lee Co. Hadn't pushed all its unwanted trash east, this town may have been worth incorporating but today, not so much. If Lehigh was to incorporate all the citizens would get from it is a name change to Lee Blvd. MLK.
You guys are doing great; keep it up.
oh for the "if's" - if you can remove the "politics" out of the situation - if you can find someone to work with the county for inter-governmental agreements - if you want to have more say as to the look of Lehigh in 20 years - if all will work together - if it doesn't become a "power" struggle - incorporation can work and not "tax people from their homes" if the right format can be implemented - but unfortunately in today's world these things are hard to accomplish IF a common goal for the county and Lehigh to both benefit can come to realization
Saw in the Merchant Marketer the money situation from the County. We cant afford being a city. With Angelickas in the middle of it you know its a bad deal.
