FDA has not approved marijuana for medical use

To the editor: There are now 18 states and the District of Columbia which have legalized the use of marijuana for medical purposes — but under federal law, marijuana remains illegal....

To suggest that the Cannabis plant is not a medicine simply because the FDA has not approved it is like saying that an agency that still asserts that the earth is flat is legitimate or has credibility which the FDA obviously [by virtue of this position] does not.

There are actually 20 States along with Washington D.C. that allow medical marijuana. What the writer fails to understand is that Marijuana has served as a medicine for over 1000 years, long before U.S. politicians declared it wasn't. It was listed in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia up until 1942. Plain and simple, keeping marijuana illegal is a cash cow for select interest groups. NOT NO MORE... Now it will decide elections...
