Please count me among the detractors of the C-43 project and the policies and procedures of SFWMD in general. A major failure of this organization’s leadership is the responsibility to represent all stakeholders in the system. Their disdain for our rivers, estuaries, coastal communities and the Everglades itself has bordered on criminal. The system is designed and managed to favor the agriculture industry and Mr. Hutchcraft’s propaganda aside that is exactly what they’ve always done.

The “science” that he quotes is related to the science that connected the rivers to Lake Okeechobee in the first place and determined there wouldn’t be consequence. Add to that endless “science” list of the beneficial projects like straightening out the Kissimmee River. That “science” worked out so well we had to spend millions to UNDO it. Now we tinker further with nasty storage reservoirs that even his scientists know are woefully inadequate to solve our water problems.
