Do you think a guest opinion by the head of an organization that is partially funded by the drug companies is sending this letter out to all newspapers because they are concerned about YOUR health? What this misleading opinion is really about is the Medicare proposed program to remove the incentive for Doctors to prescribe the most expensive drugs instead of the drug that may be best for you. Medicare noticed that with the old system of 6% "bonus" to the cost of the drugs ended up with doctors prescribing the more expensive drugs instead of what may be best for the patient. All that Medicare is doing is moving to pay the SAME "bonus" amount to the Doctors for all of the drugs so they are not pressured by their management to prescribe the wrong drugs just to make more money. The new plan also rewards Doctors based on better outcomes for the patients. Drug companies will stoop to scaring patients to keep their profits up and waste our Medicare dollars.
