Applications accepted for Festival pageants

Lehigh Acres Spring Festival is now accepting applications for the Spring Festival Pageants for all children ranging from newborn through 18 years

of age.

Applications may be found on the website at lehighspringfestival.com or picked up from Morgan & Associates Title Company, Veterans Park Recreation Center, and the East County Regional Library on Gunnery Rd.

Substitute teachers group to meet Feb. 16

A meeting of the Lee County's Substitute Teachers Association will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the school district offices on Colonial and Metro boulevards in Fort Myers. All substitute teachers are encouraged to attend. Since this is a staff development day, there is no school for students, according to Marvin Goetz, the group's president.

He said the agenda will include such items as retirement changes, membership and smart board training. There will also be a discussion about the website, weww.lcapst.org, Goetz said.

Hope to offer volunteer orientation

Hope Hospice Volunteer Training Hope Hospice will offer volunteer orientation at its office located at 25

Homestead Road North, Suite 35 in Lehigh Acres on February 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Volunteers are needed for transportation and patient and family assistance.

No experience is necessary. A volunteer application, TB test, and criminal background check need to be completed prior to the class. Applications must

be received by February 19 in order to attend class.

Lehigh Band to hold concert on Feb. 21

The Lehigh Concert Band will present "Our Community's Tribute to the Presidents" on Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church at 705 E. Leeland Height Blvd. in Lehigh.

The concert is free but a goodwill offering is usually taken during the concert.

Fat Tuesday planned Feb. 16

The public is invited to a Fat Tuesday Party on Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. to be held at Fountain Crest, a retirement community at 1230 Taylor lane Extended in Lehigh Acres.

You must RSVP by Feb. 12 by calling 303-1230. It is free to the public.

Fat Tuesday is traditionally recognized as the start of the Mardi Gras season. It is the day before Ash Wednesday.

Pirochi dinner scheduled Feb. 13 All Saints Church is having its annual Ethnic Pirochi Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 13 rom 3 to 7 p.m.

The dinner features three Pirohi, salad, stuffed cabbage, vegetables, dessert of your choice. coffee or tea. All dinners feature three pirochis, salad, stuffed cabbage, vegetables, dessert of your choice, coffee or tea. Cost is $10. Carry-out available, too. Baked goods will also be available for purchase after the dinner. The All Saints Byzantine Catholic Church is located on Bayshore Rd., Exit 143 east of I-75 toward the Lee Civic Center. Alva community yard sale on March 1

Clean out your closets and turn your junk into someone's treasure. That's the word today from Sandra Bates from Alva, who runs the Parks & Recreation Dept.

Tables available for $10 each or spots available for $5 (You must provide your own tables).

This community yard sale will be held at the tennis court from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 20, 2010.

Elks to put on spaghetti dinner on Feb. 20

The Elks Lodge will hold an all you can eat spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Feb. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lodge at 1050 Joel Blvd., Lehigh. Cost is $7.50 per person.

Democratic Women's Club meets Feb. 13

The Democratic Women's Club (DWC) will hold its monthly meeting Saturday, February 13, at the Royal Palm Yacht Club, 2360 West First Street, Fort Myers(from McGregor Blvd., turn toward the river on West First Street, one block north of the Edison and Ford Estates).

The speakers will be Florence and Richard Nogaj. Richard has written a book, Don't Retire, Get Inspired, of which the proceeds will go to Harvest For Humanity. They will speak about the joys and challenges they have faced in their give back work. The luncheon meeting is 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The luncheon price is $18. Guests are welcome.

Teen Night 'Movie in the Park' set on Feb. 19 February Teen Night will be held Friday, February 19 from 6 -10 p.m. It's planned for Hancock Park for a movie in the park. The movie showing will be The Blind Side. You can google the movie to find out who is starring in it and its plot.

The movie in the park cost $3 for teens, ages

12 to 16. The concession stand will be open to purchase tasty treats.

Bring a blanket or chair to sit on. Transportation will be provided to the movie in the park for any teen between the ages of 12-16. There are ONLY 25 spots available please RSVP soon, spots fill

TOPS now meeting at Fountain Crest

The Lehigh Acres chapter of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) has moved from its previous location at the Lehigh Christian Church to Fountain Crest, a senior living center. They will hold meetings on the second floor at 1230 Taylor Lane Extended.

Hawaiian Lao planned by Elks on Feb. 27

The Elks Lodge will have a Hawaiian Lao on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Lodge at 1050 Joel Blvd. with cocktails, 6 p.m., and dinner at 7 p.m. The menu consists of Hawaiian buffet. Come dressed in Island apparel. Music will be by the K-Tones. Cost is $15 per person. for Tickets, call Melba McCleave at 303-1866. There will be Hawaiian dancing as entertainment.
