The final performance in the Shell Point Retirement Community Summer Music Series will be Reiko, Violinist and Friends, on Monday, August 2, at 7 p.m. This was the first year for the Shell Point Summer Music Series, said Dawn Boren, director of resident life, and it has offered performances by talented performers in the church auditorium located on The Island of Shell Point.
"Reiko (Niiya-Chow) has visited Shell Point on many occasions," Boren said. "We are very happy to have her offer the final performance of our inaugural Summer Music Series, and look forward to having her again in the future. She is definitely popular with our residents, and the outside community."
Reiko is a native of Tokyo, Japan, and attended the prestigious Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music, where she received her bachelor's degree in violin performance. Following her graduation, Reiko came to the U.S. and continued her training at the University Jacobs School of Music, where she studied under Italian violinist Franco Gulli.
In 1982 Reiko moved to Fort Myers to begin her career as the concert master of the Southwest Florida Symphony. Reiko has served as concert master for six orchestras and became one of the most prominent freelance violinists in the country. Reiko and friends will present a concert of both classical and popular pop favorites.
Tickets for the final concert are $15. To purchase tickets, or receive additional information about this concert, or future concert series, call 454-2067.
