Wished more people had attended Memorial Day ceremony

By Staff | Jun 7, 2011

To The Editor:

We would like to thank the organizers and participants in the Memorial Day service at Lee Memorial Park.

We appreciate your standing out in the sun holding your flag or wreath or arms while we enjoyed sitting in chairs.

We would have liked to see more people attending. We would have appreciated the canopy that has been provided in the past by the park.

We remember when Memorial Day was called Decoration Day. That was the day to decorate the gravesites of loved ones and to honor those who served our country.

Many gravesites were decorated. We appreciated all the flags that were displayed. We hear often the phrase “Freedom is not Free.” Oh, how true.

Freedom depends on all of us whether we join the military and serve elsewhere or remain at home. The Bible gives us instructions. We have to examine ourselves and abide by what those instructions tell us.

In case you haven’t read it lately, we will repeat it. In II Chronicles 7:14 – “If my people, which are called by my name, will humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face,

and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Lest we forget to remember Memorial Day and God’s Word.

The promoters of the service never notified the media that there would be services this year. More people may have attended had they known. – Ed.
