Plan for summer camp at the Alva Community Center

Don’t be left without a spot in camp, says Sandra Bates of the Alva Community Center.

“Summer is fast approaching and camps fill early, don’t delay and register today,” she said.

The Traditional Summer Camp at Alva is open to children ages 6 to 13.

Activities include indoor and outdoor games, crafts, swimming, fishing, kayaking, special speakers, nutritional, environmental and fitness, limited field trips and more. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack are included for $75 per week. Sign up online at: at www.leeparks.org and receive a 10 percent discount.

There will only be 45 participants a week, Bates said.

The following are camp sessions:

• Session two – 6/27 -7/01, Planet Earth Week

• Session three – 7/05 -7/08, Hearts N’ Parks Week

• Session four – 7/11 -7/15, Week of Caring

• Session five – 7/18 -7/22, Silly Week

• Session six – 7/25 – 7/29, Friendship Week

Getting a book published is topic of meeting

Sandra Yehati will review the steps necessary to produce a published book from a finished manuscript. Yehati, marketing director of Whitehall printing Co. in Naples, will discuss PDFs, format, layout, artwork and numbering.

The meeting will be held on Saturday, June 18 in Room 108, Zion Lutheran Church, 7401 Winkler Rd., Fort Myers. Her topic will be “From finished manuscript to published book.” Admission $5 for non-members, $3 members, first time visitors are free.

Legion Auxiliary to hold Father’s Day breakfast

The American Legion Auxiliary 323 in Lehigh Acres will host a Father’s Day breakfast on June 19 from 8 a.m. to noon. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage. Fathers are free; other in family $4. ‘End of June” dinner, dance set at the Elks

The Lehigh Acres Elks Lodge is holding what members are calling “An End of June Dinner Dance” to be held at the Lodge at 1050 Joel Blvd on June 25.

Cocktails are at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. The menu consists of ham and the side dishes.

Music will be by Le Deux. Cost of the dinner and dance is $16 a person in advance and $18 a person at the door. For more information and to make reservations, call Barbara Guido at 770-2497.

Fourth of July ceremony planned

An Independence Day ceremony will be held by the American Legion Post 323 on July 4 at 11 a.m. A family pot luck picnic will follow.

Members and the public are invited to attend but alcoholic beverages are served only to members and their guests. The American Legion Post is on Ashlar Ave., just behind the Burger King on Homestead Rd.

VFW holds hot turkey dinner on June 18

The VFW Post 4174 will hold an open faced hot turkey sandwich dinner followed by the musical group “Magic Moments” on Saturday June 18. Dinner will be at 4:30 p.m. and entertainment at 6:30 p.m. The public is Invited. Alcoholic beverages will be served to members and guests only, said VFW Commander Les Waide.

Sleep Associates group holding Kid’s Fishing Tourney

Florida Lung & Sleep Associates in Lehigh Acres is holding a Kid’s Fishing tournament at Mirror Lakes on Saturday, June 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

There is a $25 donation per person with children 12 and younger free. A lunch is included.

11- 16- year olds

Take a walk on the wild side. Designed for the active outdoor teen. Participants will enjoy hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, outdoor games, environmental activities and more at the 768-acre Caloosahatchee Regional Park at Alva. Bring closed toed shoes, a water bottle, sunscreen, a hat, bug spray, healthy snacks and lunch and a complete change of clothes and shoes every day.

Campers will also need bring their own mountain bike and helmet to participate in mountain biking. No electronics allowed. This program is held at the Caloosahatchee lodge. Parents should use the campground parking lot for drop off and pick up.

Slim Your Body, TaeKwonDo programs planned

A six-week Slim Your Body program will be held three days per week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday June 20 – July 29; 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. At Veterans Park Community Center in Lehigh. The sum of $99 includes 18 cardio-fitness classes, a work-out plan, follow-up plan, and calorie count.

It is being put on by Victory Tae Kwon Do Family Center. Pre-registration is required. Call 239-674-7548 to pre-register.

Also, Victory Taekwondo Family Center is offering a six-week summer program for children. The cost is $99 and includes two classes per week for six weeks and uniform. For more information and or to enroll, call 239-674-7548.
