Fans will be able to have their photos taken with Spongebob, give him a hug, or just hang out with the big yellow guy.
“This is huge,” said Sun Splash Manager Sandy Greiner. “Its rare for Spongebob to make appearances anywhere ... it took a whole year to get him.”
The chance to meet Spongebob is included with the regular park admission, so it won’t cost anything extra.
There also is a Family Fun Night scheduled for that evening, and while there is a separate admission for that event, same- day park visitors can extend their fun for only $3.
But with the arrival of Spongebob already set, Greiner said Sun Splash phones have been ringing non-stop as people clamor for more information. Expected to be a big hit, Greiner said Spongebob could be the first of other similar meet-and-greet events with famous characters.
“Now that we’ve entered this realm, I’m going to try and do more of these events to attract people,” Greiner added.
Park capacity is limited to 1,650 guests, so Greiner said families should arrive early enough to make sure they get to spend time with Spongebob. The park opens at 10 a.m. and once capacity is reached no more guests will be allowed in until some filter out.
“Come in at 10 and make sure you get your spot,” Greiner said. “Once we hit capacity you’ll have to wait.”
Family Fun Night runs from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. and tickets are $8 per person, $6 for Cape Coral residents. Again, same-day visitors can extend their day for another $3. Family Fun Nights are held every second Saturday of the month at the park from May through September.
