Senior Center activities, plans for August

These are the Lehigh Acres Senior Citizens Center upcoming events for August:

Every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Bingo with large jack pots. Nonmembers are welcome.

Monday Friday from 9-11 a.m. Free blood pressure checks for members.

Wednesdays 2:30-3:30 p.m. Senior Zumba Class co-sponsored by Lehigh Rehabilitation.

Every Monday at 10:30 a.m. Meet with the social club and plan trips on the weekends.

Friday, Aug. 12 & 26, 1:30-3:45 p.m. Tea Dance.

Friday, Aug. 5 and 19, 1:30-3:45 p.m. Karaoke and Dance.

Diabetic Support Group is cancelled this month.

August 4 at 11 a.m. Casino Day. (Prizes of $150 to $50 for the top three winners) Wear western or camping clothes. Must sign up in advance. Co-sponsored by Lehigh Rehabilitation.

August 4 from 7-9 p.m. Dance with the LeDeux, $4 for nonmembers and $3 for members.

August 8 at 11:30 a.m. Lunch Bunch. VRT will speak on the balance program. Lunch provided by Fountain Crest. Sign up a week in advance.

August 10 at 11:30 a.m. Hot Dog Day. Members sign up a week in advance.

August 15 at 11:30 a.m. Lunch Bunch. Lehigh Rehabilitation will present living wills and power of attorney information. They will provide the lunch.

August 17 at 10 a.m. Immokalee Casino Trip. Sign up at travel desk.

August 18 at 9 a.m. Informative Breakfast. Lehigh Regional Medical Center will present information on hospital departments. Joanie Jeannette, CEO, will lead the discussion. Breakfast provided by LRMC.

August 23 at 10:30 a.m. Meet-n-Eat. Meet at center and carpool to Fort Myers Ale House. Please sign up in advance.

August 24 at 9:30 a.m. Pancake Breakfast Sign up in advance.

August 25 at 1 p.m. Movie Day. "The Englishman" with Hugh Grant. Sign up for popcorn.

Daily classes are offered. Our physically active classes are line dancing, exercise classes, chair dancing, walking, bocce, shuffleboard, simulated bowling, dances, corn hole, ballroom dancing, senior zumba, ping pong and billiards.

Our creative classes are creative writing, discussion group, piano, Swedish weaving, tatting, needlework-many types, punch needle, woodcarving, stain glass, plastic art craft, sewing for beginners and advanced, pine needle baskets, art (all mediums), make a teddy bear class, craft class, beading and quilting.

Multiple card games such as Pinochle, Bridge, Cribbage, Hand and Foot, Yahtzee and Sheepshead are played daily.

We have beginners and intermediate computer classes followed by a computer art and Microsoft Word class. Join the Entertainment group and perform skits and sing. We have a Golden Shell Boutique which is open to the public.

Our singles and social group plans activities and trips for the weekends. Our Tops weight loss group and Nutrition for Healthy Living class will help you balance your diet.

We have a travel desk that sets up trips to the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre and the Casino in Immokalee. We welcome anyone 50 or older. Join the center for $15 a year and enjoy the Lee County pool on Williams Street for an extra $10 a year. It will cost $2 a day for nonmembers. Special events have other requirements; please inquire at the main desk.
