To The Editor:
Last week I informed the Lee County commissioners that I have three Ph.D. economists who have agreed to perform a retrospective study over the past 60 years. I asked for the county to fund the retrospective study out of the Unincorporated MSTU. The estimate is between $10,000 and $20,000.
As I understand the county policy, expenditures less than $25,000 doesn't require a board vote and the county manager can be instructed to act on this request.
Specifically, what we are looking for is a per capita spending of county revenues in Lehigh Acres over the past 60 years versus the rest of the county.
We would like to break the study down into 10 year increments for comparisons.
Capital Improvement Expenditures: county lands, natural resources, government facilities, parks, community/ regulations, library, solid waste, transportation (roads, water access and utilities.
Federal and State Grants Expenditures: road impact fee collection and expenditures.
Shared Revenues: sales tax, cigarette tax, gasoline tax.
General Fund: ad valoren taxes.
If the commissioners are not inclined to act on the request for the benefit of Lehigh Acres Citizens, I hope they will advise us so that we may seek private funds.
