Sheeja Kanacheril, DO, has joined the Lehigh Medical Group at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, where she will practice family medicine. Kanacheril graduated with her bachelor of arts degree from Tulane University Newcomb College in 1999, and as a doctor of osteopathy from Nova Southeastern University in 2004. She completed her training as a family medicine resident at Duke/Southern Regional Area Health Education Center in Fayetteville, N.C., in 2007.
Since that time Kanacheril has been working at Florida Family Health Centers in Orlando, and more recently Port Charlotte, providing her services to underserved and challenged patients. She is thrilled to be back now in her own community, serving at the same hospital her mother has worked at as a nurse for the past 20 years, and Sheeja herself worked as a candy striper while at school.
Sheeja and her family arrived in Lehigh in 1986. She attended Lehigh Elementary and Middle School, and graduated from Riverdale High. Her mom, Mini, still at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, working in the ICU, and her dad has recently retired after many years working at Gulfcoast Center serving the mentally handicapped.
Dr. Sheeja Kanacheril
"It is so exciting for me to be back home in the community I grew up in and love. Since I was at Lehigh Middle School I knew I would be in the healthcare business, and now to be serving as a family physician here at the Lehigh Medical Group is just amazing. It doesn't seem that long ago that, as a high school student, I was working in Dr. Nagarathinam's office dreaming of being a doctor," Kanacheril said.
She is married with two children and speaks English, Spanish, Greek and Malayalam.
Her practice is located at Suite 1100 Lehigh Medical Plaza, 1530 Lee Blvd., Lehigh Acres, FL 33936. She can be reached at: phone: 239-368-0241.
