Medical Clinic supporters disappointed with Lee County commissioners

November 2, 2011
Lehigh Acres Citizen

To The Editor:

We the volunteers of Lehigh's Lee County Volunteers in Medicine, (LCVIM) followed the direction of the Lee County Commission to speak with their staff concerning the medical needs of Lehigh Acres.

Several local organizations sent letters of endorsement and requesting the county to fund this compassionate and one of a kind "Free Medical Clinic" for the poorest of our community.

They include the Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce, the Lehigh Acres Community Council, the Lehigh Acres Community Planning Panel, Lehigh Acres Community Services, the Rotary Club of Lehigh Acres, Lehigh Regional Medical Center, and the Lehigh Acres Economic Development Board.

Our community is disappointed in Lee County government's response to an overwhelming need in our community. If Lee County's policies are preventing adequate and ease of access of medical care to the poorest of our community, their needs to be a community discussion and evaluation of that policy.
