I recently had the pleasure of hosting President Mike Haridopolos in Southwest Florida to highlight our community and give him a more personal look at the issues affecting our day-to-day life.
As you may know, the president of the senate is an important position in the Florida Legislature. Aside from serving his senate district, Sen. Haridopolos, helps set the policy agenda for the entire state. I am thankful that he accepted my invitation to visit Senate District 27. The reception in Fort Myers could not have been better.
In the morning, we hosted a breakfast with the Greater Fort Myers Realtor's Association to learn about the continuing challenges surrounding the housing market, and ways that state government can be a good silent partner. It is our goal as government leaders to provide stability and predictability to our state's business owners, investors and entrepreneurs.
Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto
This legislative session we will pursue an agenda that is focused on job creation and economic development.
In the afternoon, we invited board members from the Chambers of Commerce in Lee County to hold a "Council of the Chambers" roundtable event at Edison State College.
Business and Community Leaders from the Chambers of Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, Lehigh Acres, Estero, and Southwest Florida joined us for this meeting. Our discussion focused on economic development as we listened to our small businessmen and women as they shared the struggles and frustration of burdensome government regulations. President Haridopolos and I listened closely and hope to ease some of that frustration this legislative session.
If you would like to know about future events or visits, I hope you will take a moment to contact our office. It is through strong community involvement that I am able to best represent the interests of the constituents in District 27. My office can be reached by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 239-433-6599.
