People need to help Lehigh, not belittle it

November 23, 2011
Lehigh Acres Citizen

To The Editor:

This is in reference to the article that appeared in Nov. 9 edition which claimed there were two warring factions battling about tax money paid and received from Lehigh Acres. The article at best was a joke, first the only group declaring war is the so called Fab 3 "not to be confused with the Fab 5 of Cape Coral" - this group that you recognized as Mike Welch (who in my opinion is selling himself as a political, adviser and keeper of Lehigh Acres) Eugene Borosch (who lives in Fort Myers, a better neighborhood) Frank Lohlein (who seems to spend his senior years on the computer lashing out at any one or thing).

The Fab 3 has taken the stance that anyone who looks out to help Lehigh Acres, is a crook or trying to pull the wool over our eyes, and they know what is best for us.

I ask why would this group spend six weeks with the county commissioners (the three that vote against Lehigh Acres requests) and come away with figures that they as business people should send up a red flag.

I am not the brightest bulb when it comes to budgets but if someone tells me that we pay $13,611,359, in taxes and get back $80,598,010, and I travel through Lehigh Acres and observe the difference of here to Estero or North Fort Myers, I think something is wrong.

If you go online to Larry Hall (Tax Collector) his sight say that Lehigh Acres with its 122,744 parcels paid a $40,594,245.85 in taxes, so I guess that the Fab 3 cannot understand the difference of grants and county money.

After your meeting with the county did they send you back with a promise "we will take care of you - just be quiet and the check will be in the mail

If this is how they want to do business in Lehigh Acres we will need help, and since Mr. Welch is on the ECWCD, we better do some re-thinking here. If you truly love Lehigh Acres quit trying to belittle Lehigh Acres and help out our citizens, not your own agenda.
