Mariner bounces back, stuffs South FM 54-39

By Staff | Dec 2, 2011

A scoreless stretch lasting 4 1/2 minutes to start the third quarter proved fatal for the South Fort Myers Wolfpack Wednesday night.

During that stretch, the Mariner Tritons ran off eight points to open a nine-point cushion on their way to a 54-39 victory at Frank Morris Gymnasium.

Scoring did not come any easier for the Wolfpack the rest of the second half either during which they were outscored 27-13.

Senior guard Donald Minto had a lot to do with the Tritons’ surge, pumping in nine points in the third quarter to finish with 17 points. Senior center Kendrec Ferrara made his presence felt as well, scoring eight points in the second half to finish with a game-high 19.

The Tritons put the game away at the free throw line in the fourth quarter, finding the range for 9-of-10 in the period, including 8-of-8 over the final 2:40 to build their biggest lead of the game.

Rick Moore chipped in with 10 points for the Tritons (2-1), who host Cypress Lake in a District 5A-13 contest on Friday.

Jack Kelly topped the Wolfpack with 15 points, all coming on five three-pointers.
