Dr. J. Frank Avey, medical director at Prism Aesthetics, is one of the first select few physicians in Lee County to offer a new alternative to Botox Cosmetic for treating facial wrinkles.
Xeomin was first approved in Europe about five years ago and then received FDA-approval for cosmetic use in the United States in 2010. It was just introduced to the Florida market in November of 2011 by Merz Aesthetics, the maker of the popular dermal filler Radiesse.
Avey received training from the supplier during the first week of November and has already treated 10 clients with Xeomin.

"To date, results appear quite similar to those of Botox, and in fact, some clients report an even faster onset of results with Xeomin," Avey said.
Like Botox, Xeomin is made from proteins that form part of the toxin released by the botulinum organism but it does not cause infection or illness of any form, he said. The result of cosmetic treatment with Xeomin or Botox is relaxation of facial muscles giving you a more youthful or relaxed look.
Facial lines and wrinkles generally fade away in two to seven days. Results typically last three to four, sometimes longer, and the treatment can be repeated as needed. Avey said he was selected by the distributor to be one of the first physicians in Southwest Florida to try Xeomin because of his past experience and volume of work with cosmetic toxin and filler injections.
Prism Aesthetics opened in 2008 and is the first and only full-service Laser Med-Spa in Lehigh Acres.
"One of the other advantages of being an early adopter site for this product is that we can purchase the product at a lower cost and that means we can provide it to our clients at a lower introductory cost," Avey said. Currently the distributor is offering a rebate in the form of a $50 Visa gift card in addition to the lower initial cost, but supplies are limited, he said.
Prism Aesthetics is located in the Lehigh Medical Plaza next to Lehigh Regional Medical Center. You can contact Avey for a free consultation at 368-5857, or go online at www.PrismAesthetics.com.
