Verot girls ‘Ward’ off Baker, 45-39

Senior Bridgette Ward pitched in a game-high 25 points, including four three-point baskets, to lead Bishop Verot to a 45-39 victory Monday night over the Ida Baker Bulldogs.

The win snapped a five-game winning streak by the Bulldogs (6-2), who will try to start another win streak Thursday when they host Cypress Lake.

Alicia Emmons topped the Bulldogs with 17 points with Ali Nicloy adding eight and Jessy Placher six.

The Vikings play at North Port on Wednesday.

Girls Soccer

North Fort Myers 3, Gulf Coast 3 (tie): North Fort Myers squandered a three-goal lead and was forced to settle for a tie at Gulf Coast Monday night.

North, which led 2-0 at halftime, got goals from Hanna Hamilton and Melinda Lukas in the first half. Lukas, who assisted on Hamilton's score, added the third goal in the second half to give the Red Knights a 3-0 lead. Taylor Pascal assisted on one of the goals by Lukas.

Knights goalkeeper Amy Pavy had 12 saves on the night, but Gulf Coast scored three unanswered goals in the second half to tie the game. The tying goal came with four minutes to play.

The Knights (8-2-1) play at Cypress Lake at 6 p.m. Tuesday, a game followed by the boys' match at 8 p.m.

Bishop Verot 8, Golden Gate 0: Kady Otzko, Lauren Cento and Paige Law tallied two goals apiece to boost Bishop Verot to its seventh straight victory Monday at Golden Gate.

Erin Persinger and Taylor Winslow scored Verot's other two goals. Rebecca Abernethy, Maria Quinonez, Allison Oliva, Persinger and Otzko each had one assist.

Goalkeeper Cailyn Rizzo recorded the shutout without having to make a save.

The Vikings (7-1-1) do not play again until Dec. 16 at LaBelle.
