Skidding Cape tops I-Coast, 61-53

By Staff | Dec 11, 2011

Cape Coral snapped a three-game losing streak with a 61-53 victory Friday at Island Coast.

“They did a good job of keeping us off balance,” said Island Coast coach Greg Coleman. “Of course, when you make 30 turnovers you can’t win games that way.”

Foul trouble for post man Terrell Griffin also figured into the Gators’ downfall. Griffin was held to one point and stayed on the floor for only short spurts.

“When your best post player goes out, that really hurt us offensively,” said Coleman.

Island Coast led early, but the Seahawks fought back to take a 23-19 lead at halftime despite being outrebounded.

“We outrebounded them in the second half and our second group gave us a spark,” said Seahawks coach Darrin Wallace.

Chase Galuzny topped the Seahawks with 18 points and six rebounds with David Flynn adding 14 points.

Isaac Aponte topped the Gators with 18 points with Tim Dal Bon adding 16 points and Pablo Matos 12.

“When we could have, we didn’t close the gap in the second half,” added Coleman.

The Seahawks (5-4) play at Cypress Lake Tuesday while Island Coast (3-3) travels to Mariner Tuesday.
