Senior Patrique Chery came to the rescue when the Island Coast Gators needed him the most Friday night.

Chery sank two free throws with eight seconds left, his only points of the game, to lift Island Coast to a District 6A-13 win at Riverdale.

The Gators led throughout until the Raiders took their first lead at 52-50 with three minutes to go in the game. The Gators took the lead back for good on Tim Dal Bon's three-pointer at the two-minute mark, 55-52.

It was a one-possession game until Chery sealed the five-point margin of victory. The Gators converted 20 of 28 free throw chances and made just eight turnovers.

"It was a big district win for us," said Gators coach Greg Coleman. "We went cold there in the third quarter and they hit their shots."

Isaac Aponte led the Gators with 20 points and seven assists. Dal Bon finished with 13 points and Pablo Matos added 11.

The Gators (4-4, 2-0 district) participate in the Mariner Christmas Tournament next week. The Gators open against Lely at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
