Letter: Education scholarships - An investment in the future

December 21, 2011
Lehigh Acres Citizen

To The Editor:

It is that time of year when we are closing out one year and preparing for another to start. And since it is also the time of the year when we feel all fuzzy because of the holiday season, we are getting asked a lot for donations for the less fortunate ones and we give what we can and feel real good about it for that moment.

But how about if we can keep this feeling for a longer period of time like, let's say three years?

The Education Committee of the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce can offer you this feeling for three years with a Three Years Commitment to the Educational Scholarship Fund. A fund that ensures a better college and professional start for the future leaders of the Lehigh Acres community. The GLACC Education Committee awards scholarships each year to deserving graduating seniors from Lehigh Acres.

We are asking your readers to please consider making a three-year commitment of $100 per year to the scholarship fund starting in January 2012. That is less than $9 a month or $25 a quarter year.

You can donate whatever amount you would like to go toward your scholarship commitment at any time during the year, by signing a 3-year commitment.

This assures us that we will receive at least $100 by the end of each of the three years. This will put us in the position to calculate more accurately how many graduates we can support with a scholarship.

Maybe you have a child, grandchild, nephew, niece, or just someone you know that is graduating. Wouldn't it be great to know there are resources out there to help them as they move on to college. The Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce Education Committee can only provide scholarships if we continue to receive the generous support of the community.

Pease consider committing to the future of our Lehigh Acres graduating seniors by participating in this convenient contribution plan.

If you have questions, please contact the Chamber office (239-369-3322).
