Mariner surges past Lehigh, 63-51

Rick Moore led a third-quarter surge that enabled the Mariner Tritons to pin a 63-51 defeat on the Lehigh Lightning Friday night at Frank Morris Gymnasium.

Moore helped break a 24-24 halftime tie by scoring 13 of his team-high 17 points, including 11 points in a row, that boosted the Tritons to a 44-26 margin after three periods.

Donald Minto matched Moore's 17 points while adding seven rebounds.

"We did a very good job coming out strong in the second half," said Tritons coach James Harris. "The guys played intense basketball in the second half."

Senior center Kendrec Ferrara did not play the first half for disciplinary reasons, but came through with 10 points in 12 minutes in the second half.

The Tritons (10-4) face Gulf Coast at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Lely in the Lee/Collier Shootout.

Fort Myers 73, Ida Baker 60: Ida Baker hung in tight against Fort Myers Friday night, but the Green Wave pulled away in the second half to down the Bulldogs.

"We played pretty good defense for awhile," said Bulldogs coach Brad Seiss.

Angel Inchausti led the Bulldogs with 17 points with Jordan Lugo adding 16.

The Bulldogs (3-12) host East Lee County on Tuesday.

South Fort Myers 62, Island Coast 41: South Fort Myers went on a scoring tear in the middle two quarters to pull away for a district victory at Island Coast Friday.

"We still control our own destiny in the district," said Gators coach Greg Coleman. "They just outplayed and outhustled us in all phases of the game tonight,"

Terrell Griffin topped the Gators with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Isaac Aponte contributed 11 points and seven steals in the losing effort.

The Gators (7-8, 2-1 district) travel to Estero on Tuesday.

Fort Myers 64, Ida Baker 42: Fort Myers staked themselves with a 23-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in Friday's win over Ida Baker.

Alysia Emmons topped the Bulldogs with 16 points while Hannah Del Negro added 12.

"We couldn't hit any shots in the first quarter and they couldn't miss," said Bulldogs coach Jason Briggs.

Kelsey Mitchell led the Green Wave with 20 points.

The Bulldogs (12-5) play Tuesday at East Lee County.
