Tritons break out to 6-1 win over Lehigh

The Mariner Tritons, who have won seven of their last nine games, raced to a 4-1 lead at intermission on the way to a 6-1 victory over Lehigh Friday night at Tony McKenna Field.

Travis Pacheco scored two goals for the Tritons with Toby Lara, Jacob Olmstead, Dan Rawley and Tim Thomas adding one goal apiece.

Austin Turner contributed one assist while Thomas and Tyler Till each came through with two assists.

Olmstead played the first half in the net, making two saves, and Alex Trujillo added one save in the second half.

"We got great defense tonight from Isaiah Romano and Lara," said Tritons coach Martin Cardenas.

The Tritons (16-2-3) travel to Naples on Monday.

Cape Coral 6, Charlotte 1: Six different players scored a goal Friday night against Charlotte to keep Cape High unbeaten.

Nathan Stone, Kevin Lopera, Oscar Camacho, Caio Amaral, Vincent Brusco and Kevin Hurley knocked on goals for the Seahawks, who led 3-1 at halftime. Charlotte actually scored first in the game, the first time this season the Seahawks have trailed.

Lopera, Stone, Brusco, Nico Camacho and Xavier Cuevas each contributed one assist.

Santi Villamil had six saves for the Seahawks (13-0-1), who play Tuesday night at Bishop Verot.

Bishop Verot 3, Ida Baker 0: After playing a coach-pleasing game against the Cape High Seahawks Thursday, Ida Baker broke down in a loss at Bishop Verot Friday.

"The effort tonight was not the same as Thursday," said Bulldogs coach Justin Aulls. "It's only our second loss by more than two goals."

The Bulldogs (5-7-6), who played without regular goalkeeper Rush Manterola who was sick, allowed two first-half goals, one on a free kick and one on a breakaway. Another breakaway goal in the second half sealed the win for the Vikings.

The Bulldogs play at Estero Monday.

Girls Soccer

Mariner 6, Lehigh 0: Freshman Holly Fritz continued her scoring pace with four goals Friday in Mariner's shutout win at Lehigh.

Alejandra Muro-Solis added the other two goals for the Tritons (17-3-2), who play again Monday against Cypress Lake.

Tritons goalkeeper Marissa Cardenas never face a shot on goal.

Estero 8, Island Coast 0: Goalkeeper Sydni Brookhouser made 10 saves in Island Coast's shutout loss to Estero Friday.

Island Coast plays at Ida Baker Tuesday.

Bishop Verot 6, Gainesville 2: Kady Otzko came through with four goals to lead Bishop Verot to victory Friday at Gainesville High.

Kelly Williamson and Lauren Cento added one goal and one assist apiece. Ashley Lofgren and Allison Oliva also added assists.

Goalkeepers Chryssie Gibson made two saves in the first half and Cailyn Rizzo one save in the second half.

The Vikings (9-12) face Lake Highland Prep Saturday in Orlando.
