Builders in unincorporated Lee County pulled 373 permits for new, single-family homes in 2011, including six permits in December. The annual total compares to 384 permits issued in 2010, according to the Lee County's Department of Community Development.

There were 136 multi-family units permitted in 2011, including duplex and apartment units. Of those, six were issued in December.

The annual total is up from 96 units in 2010. Permits issued for new commercial structures were valued at more than $122 million in 2011, including nearly $7.1 million in December.

During 2010, commercial permitting was valued at $42.8 million.

Lee County issued a total of 29,684 building permits of all kinds in 2011, compared to 31,031 the previous year.

"Permitting in Lee County held steady during the year, and we saw gains in multi-family and commercial permitting," said Mary Gibbs, director of Lee County's Department of Community Development.

Lee County Community Development oversees planning, zoning, development, building services, environmental review, building inspection and code enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Lee County.
