It wasn't pretty, but two first half goals by Ida Baker junior Monique Elliott withstood constant pressure by Manatee Tuesday night as the Bulldogs pulled out a 2-1 victory in the Region 4A-3 quarterfinals.
Elliott's first goal came in the sixth minute of play on a breakaway. Shannon Pearl sent a ball over the defense and Elliott outraced everyone to the ball, tapping it once around the keeper and delivering it into an open net from the left side.
Elliott later headed a high cross from Amber Hutchison next to Manatee keeper Lauren Cox for a 2-0 lead.
Baker failed to clear a ball in front of the net just before halftime for Manatee's only goal, but rejected every surge after that.
The Bulldogs (22-2-4) advance to Friday's regional semifinals for the third year in a row. They play at Lakewood Ranch Friday night.
