National Passport Day to be recognized

March 10 is National Passport Day.

The Page Field Post Office will extend its passport service on that day to offer passports from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by appointment.

To make an appointment, call 239-277-3336; you will be given an appointment time and told what items you need to bring to the interview.

Passports are now needed for travel to other countries, such as in the Caribbean and Canada. Passport service can take up to four weeks, so plan ahead.

Volunteers needed for letter carrier food drive

It's not too early to start thinking about volunteering for the annual Letter Carrier Food Drive, which will be held on May 12.

This is the largest one-day food drive in the nation; locally food collected is donated to the Harry Chapin Food Bank.

If you would like to volunteer to assist letter carriers in picking up food donations on the carrier routes please contact Debi Mitchell, 239-573-9638.

If you'd like to help the Harry Chapin Food Bank pre-sorting donated food at a Post Office location, contact Bedzaida Bryen at the food bank, 239-334-7007, ext. 141.

Seasonal visitors are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items at the Post Office when they leave the area. Donations will be held for inclusion in the food drive.

Advantages of using post office boxes

Post office boxes can provide many conveniences such as privacy, security, and the availability of access 24/7.

Several new advantages are being offered to users.

* Street Addressing. Use the street address of your Post Office, and it will accept packages from private carriers who do not normally accept mail for Post Office Boxes. Both street addresses and Post Office Box numbers will be accepted.

* Real Mail Notification Service. You can receive either a text message or email to notify you when you receive new mail Monday-Saturday. Now you'll know when mail has arrived.

* Signature on File. By providing your signature, the Post Office will accept some signature-required mail and packages, which you can access at your convenience. This includes Express Mail, insured mail over $200, and Signature Confirmation.

* Saturday Delivery. Should the Postal Service discontinue Saturday street delivery, PO Box customers will not be affected. PO Box mail will be processed and delivered six days a week.

For more information about purchasing stamps, stamps by mail, postal regulations, a free subscription to USA Philatelic magazine, Post Office events, the location of the nearest postal store or contract unit, or for answers to your specific Postal Service questions, contact USPS at 1-800-275-8777, or visitwww.usps.com.

To schedule a presentation for your community, club or group on how the Postal Service brings the Post Office to your home or office computer, call 239-573-9638.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
