Lehigh Acres Little League Opening Day on Saturday at Williams Park was a huge success.

More than 500 boys and girls participated on 40 teams playing in 20 games. The spectator attendance count for the day was more than 2,000 parents and fans

In addition to the games, the children enjoyed a full day of bounce houses, wall climbing, speed pitching and more. Members of the Lehigh Acres Varsity Baseball Team watched over and supervised the area.

The new T-ball field proved to be just what the younger players needed. All in attendance talked about the great condition of the playing fields, the first-class quality of umpiring, good food at a very reasonable price and how well run and organized the entire days program was.

A lot of work by many volunteers go into the large-scale event and Lehigh Acres enjoys both parents and friends who are willing to take time out to help. New umpires, field personnel and concession stand volunteers are always invited to come out.

This was just the first day of the beginning of a great new season of Little League baseball and softball. Games will continue at Williams Park throughout the summer. Weekday games start at 6:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Saturday games start every two hours on all five fields beginning at 8 a.m. with the last games starting at 6 p.m.
