Bulldogs toss 1-hit shutout

Four Ida Baker pitchers combined to shut out Evangelical Christian 4-0 on one hit Friday night.

The Sentinels got their only base hit off starter Branden Gutierrez in the first inning. Gutierrez, Luke Rolland, Sean Brady and Billy Larrimore shut the door from there with a combined 12 strikeouts.

Caleb Farmer led the Bulldogs' 11-hit attack with three hits and one RBI. Skylar Holt and Johnathan Angelo had two hits apiece. Ryan Erhardt's two-run double in the second inning proved to be the game-winning hit.

The Bulldogs (10-9) play a District 6A-13 rival Island Coast Tuesday night.

Riverdale 7, Cape Coral 6: Riverdale forced an extra inning with a two-run home run with two out in the top of the seventh inning and completed the come-from-behind victory at Cape Coral with a run in the eighth inning.

Brandon Marshall was thrown out at the plate in the bottom of the eighth trying to score the tying run for the Seahawks. A squeeze bunt with one out was popped up allowing Riverdale to make the game-ending double play.

Cody Carroll and Steven Dudas contributed two hits apiece for the Seahawks, who host Lehigh Tuesday night.

Oasis 14, Everglades 0: Oasis recorded its first victory of the season Friday night with a one-hit shutout at Everglades.

Baylee Smith allowed just one hit and struck out four over five innings to earn the win for the Sharks. Smith also came through with two base hits to match Bobby Ruggles' contribution.

Dan Korchick belted a three-run home run in the first inning to stake the Sharks to the early advantage. Tyler Haag added a double.

The Sharks (1-15) are in action again Thursday at Southwest Florida Christian.

Palmetto Ridge 10, Cape Coral 5: Mallory Gerrero hit a home run and Khristian Mims added two hits in Cape Coral's loss to Palmetto Ridge Friday night.

The Seahawks (6-12) play at Bishop Verot Monday night.

Lemon Bay 5, North Fort Myers 4: Lemon Bay bunched together three base hits in the seventh inning to push across the winning run in a District 5A-13 game Friday night.

Darienne Boyden and Tori Fields each contributed two hits including a triple for the Red Knights (15-3), who travel to Lakewood Ranch Monday night

Cape Coral 14, Cypress Lake 4: Carly Vilardi pitched Cape Coral to a victory Thursday night at Cypress Lake.

The Seahawks struck for four runs in the first and seven more in the second inning to break the game wide open early. The Seahawks led 14-0 in the fifth inning when the Panthers scratched for all of their runs.

It is Vilardi's second win on the mound in three decisions.
