A pair of Cape Coral burglars, who detectives arrested and charged last summer for a string of break-ins, has been sentenced to nine years each in state prison in connection to the crimes, according to police officials.

Jeffrey Todd Knavel, 30, and Christopher Adam Volk, 29, both of 3101 S.E. 16th Place, pleaded guilty and accepted the near decade-long sentence.

“This speaks to the commitment of our officers and detectives and the quality of their work,” Lt. Tony Sizemore said. “This, coupled with the strong partnership with the prosecutors at the State Attorney’s Office, leads to criminals going to prison and off of our streets.”

In July, detectives responded to a pawn shop in the 2900 block of Del Prado Boulevard. A woman had identified jewelry in a display case at the shop that had reportedly been stolen from her residence during a burglary.

According to police, the woman had been checking various pawn shops and second-hand dealer stores for her property. Electronics had also been taken from the woman’s home during the burglary.

A check of the transactions at the pawn shop reportedly revealed that Knavel had sold the victim’s camera and lens to the business.

Detectives then set up surveillance at Knavel’s residence. When he and Volk arrived, police took the two men into custody. Both reportedly admitted to committing multiple burglaries in the area over the past several months.
