The theme of this year's National Nurses Week is "Nurses: Advocating, Leading, Caring," as designated by the American Nurses Association. This short statement couldn't summarize the field of nursing better, as our nurses wear many hats on a daily basis. They are healers, comforters, educators and studied medical practitioners.
During what often turns out to be vulnerable times of our lives, nurses provide us with trust and care, and their commitment to patient safety and medical accuracy make a significant difference in the success of our hospital. We could not do it without them, and in the rush of everyday life, we should not lose sight of the magnitude of their duties.
During the coming week, May 6-12, we will have the chance to give our nurses the special recognition and thanks they deserve. Please join us in celebrating National Nurses Week. Think back to a time when you needed a nurse and then be grateful that individual was there for you. Thank any nurse you come across. Reach out to those you know. It takes a special person to be a nurse. Many nurses tell me that their career choice is more than a job, that it is a calling. I trust that to be true, and all of us at Lehigh Regional Medical Center want to let our nurses know that we care greatly for them.
