Agnes Donna Prestigiovanni
Agnes Donna Prestigiovanni, 89, of Lehigh Acres, died Sunday, May 13, 2012. She was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of the late Jenny DelMastro and Angelo Capozzi.
She had lived in Lehigh for 34 years. She was the wife of the late Joseph Prestigiovanni, who died in 2000.
Prestigiovanni received a master’s degree in early childhood education from Antioch University and ran the Head Start program in Arlington, Mass., until her husband retired and they moved to Lehigh in 1978.
In 1982, she became the first director of the Lehigh Acres Senior Center. She retired from the Senior Center in 1994. After retiring, she was a longtime volunteer at the Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce.
She was very active in community groups such as The Women’s Club, ABWA, Red Hats and other organizations. She also served on a senior foundation board with Myra Kessler and Ruth Anglickis, who were trying to bring affordable senior housing to Lehigh.
In a feature story once written about her during the 25th anniversary of the senior center, it was written that, “Agnes brought unequaled professionalism and enthusiasm to the center.”
Survivors include her children, John (Sandra), Donna (Richard) Murray, Jean (Stephen) Lynch, Joseph Jr. (Catherine) Francis, Susan (Michael) Burns; grandchildren, Kristen (Ted) Skinner, Rebecca, Kaitlin, Patrick, Christopher, Alexander, Taylor and Olivia; and great-grandson, Mason.
Her late brothers were Thomas, Nick and Angelo Capozzi, and her sisters were Rose Narduzzo and Columbia Barrett.
