Leah Marie Beckman, 37, of Lehigh Acres, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Health Park Medical Center in Fort Myers. She was born Oct. 8, 1974 in Flint, Mich., a child of Ronald Edward and Donna Marie (Stevens) Beckman.
All who have known her agree that she was among the kindest and most generous women of our time. She managed to touch the heart of every person who came in contact with her. For her, the idea of giving someone the shirt right off her back was not a mere concept, but the mantra that she lived by every day.
As a single mother of two daughters - Laura Abigail, 9, and Jessica Renee, 19 - she didn't have a lot to give, but what she had, she gave abundantly, not to receive, but purely for the joy of giving.
Leah Marie Beckman
Countless times, she gave the last dollar she had to someone in need, knowing that the Lord would provide her another. She always had time to listen to the trials and tribulations of others, and had the wisdom to share from her experience and scriptural knowledge; profound advice that brought comfort to many.
She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was an expert on his Word, as evidenced by her many ministry certifications.
Material objects meant little to her - she cared only to create a home that all could find comfort and peace in, and in spite of her meager income, she succeeded greatly in that. It didn't matter what kind of day you were having, you could walk into her home and feel all your troubles melt away as she greeted you with a smile and an offer of sustenance, whether it be spiritual, physical or mental.
She could not pass a child anywhere, whether it be the doctor's office, the park or a grocery store, without having to stop and make a loving fuss over them, putting the parents completely at ease and making the child feel that this was a person who has loved them their whole life. She was a mother, a sister, a daughter, a granddaughter, a cousin, an aunt and a mother-in-law. Most importantly, she was a friend to all.
She is survived by her daughters, Jessica and Laura; son-in-law, Michael; parents, Donna and Ron; sister, Anna; brothers, Samuel and Ivan; loving companion, Tim; nephew, Jacob; nieces, Karly and Miah Jane; and several others, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Jeremiah.
There will be a private memorial service in June in Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to her home at 104 West Lake Drive, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936.
