To the Editor:
Gov. Scott plans to make Florida the overriding issue in the presidential race again in 2012.
"Florida, Florida, Florida," to repeat NBC's Tim Russert's quotes in the 2000 race. Scott is planning to mail out 180,000 letters t people that challenge their right to vote. Talk about suppression of the vote, this is big time suppression.
This number could make a difference in who gets the 29 votes Florida has in the Electoral College. This is a serious attempt to drop Democrats and Independent voters from the voter rolls. (George Bush won Florida by 537 votes in 2000). In that race, Jeb Bush did not restore rights of persons who had served their jail time. Rights can now be restored by a state process set up by Charlie Crist.
Scott's devious plan will place the burden of proof on the person receiving the letter. Hope is they will not respond with necessary proof in the 30 days they are given. Then they will be dropped and lose their right to vote.
To me this is election fraud and is serious tampering with Americans' sacred right to vote.
People of Florida need to demand that the Justice Department intervene and stop this evil act. Many have died to secure this right. Many have died to ensure this right for all Americans.
