American Legion Post 323 held their joint installation of officer, July 14, 2012 at their Post home, 1124 Ashlar Avenue, Lehigh Acres. The installation started with social hour at 12:00. Commander, Jerry Sherlock called the installation to order at 1:00 pm. Boy Scout Troop 720 presented colors. POW/MIA chair covering ceremony was completed by, Assistant Sgt.-At-Arms, Charles Morgan. Prayer was given by Post 323 Chaplain Carol Toney, Pledge of Allegiance was given in unison. American Legion Post 323 Assistant Sgt.-At-Arms, Charles Morgan escorted the District 13 Commander to the podium. American Legion District Commander, Bill Houser thanked the Post Family of 323 for having the District Staff do their installation. He then brought greetings from American Legion Department of Florida Commander Al (Gunner) Dudley, whose theme for this year is Homeless Veterans. The American Legion Auxiliary District 13 President, Dianne Dircz was then escorted to the podium to install the incoming officers of American Legion Auxiliary 323. Evelyn Buffum installed as President for a third term. Being installed with her are: Marilyn Murr-Sherlock, Holly Kane, Jackie Moody, Lois McFall, Vickie Leventhal, Nicole Jaster, Dawn Jamieson, Maxine Spamer, and Sandra Couch. The Auxiliary presented President Evelyn with a check for $50.00 for her outstanding work. Several awards were presented to the Auxiliary from the American Legion Department of Florida.
District 13 Sons of the American Legion Commander, Steve Gordon was then escorted to the podium to install the incoming officers. Installed at the American Legion Squadron 323 Commander was Ray Leventhal. Being installed with him was, Matthew Holland, Gary Norris, Andy Burkett, Jim Caulfield, and Jim Bush. Commander Leventhal, thanked the Post, Auxiliary, Squadron, Riders for welcoming him and his wife as members, and is planning many activities for the Squadron this year.
Ray Leventhal was at Podium to install incoming Riders officers. Being installed with Director Ray Esponda were, George Becker, Lisa Morgan, Gerard Sherlock.
District 13 Commander Bill Houser was again escorted to the podium to install American Legion Post 323 officer. Being installed for a second term was Gerard (Jerry) Sherlock. Being installed with Commander Sherlock was John Bennett, Andy Burkett, George Becker, Jackie Frady, Carol Toney, Ron Rice, Charles Morgan, Ray Esponda. After installation Ron Rice, Judge Advocate presented Jerry and Marilyn Sherlock with a plaque for their outstanding service and dedication to American Legion Post 323.
Commander Sherlock thanked everyone who helped during the past year whether it was by donation, helping with the restoration of the Post, completing American Legion programs. He thanked his wife for standing with him throughout the year. He has worked with great officers during the past year and looks forward to working with the newly installed officers and membership of American Legion Post 323 where we are truly a family.
Installation was then adjourned with closing prayer and blessing of the food by American Legion Post 323 Chaplain Carol Toney.
