CCPD wrapping up second search for homicide suspect

By Staff | Aug 23, 2012

Police are wrapping up a search in southwest Cape Coral for a homicide suspect wanted out of Broward County.

In the area surrounding Beach Parkway West and Southwest 16th Place, people may have noticed police vehicles, helicopters and officers on foot for the last hour, according to CCPD Sgt. Dana Coston. Residents were asked to limit traffic in and out of their homes and try and avoid the area.

Police were acting on a tip received from someone who reported that he or she possibly saw Felipe Torrealba.

At 1:30 p.m., law enforcement enacted a modified lockdown at nearby schools, including Gulf Elementary School, Gulf Middle School and Ida S. Baker High School. The high school was dismissed on time, officials reported.

Authorities were expecting regular dismissal times at the two remaining schools.

Students who use school bus stops located in the area where police were searching were taken to Ida Baker for pickup. Those stops are located along Chiquita Boulevard between Mohawk Parkway and Southwest 43rd Street.

School officials reported that staffers were attempting to notify all affected parents of the change.

For those in the area who notice anything suspicious, contact the CCPD at (239) 574-3223.
