September is a great time of the year to take a quiet stroll through a bit of wilderness right in the heart of Fort Myers.
The fully accessible boardwalk trail at the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is open daily from dawn until dusk, but for those wishing to learn more about the Slough, guided walks are offered Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tours are free with paid parking of $1 per hour.
Volunteers on hand to answer questions Tuesday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
More adventurous visitors may wish to participate in weekend wet walks. These tours will be held Sept. 8 and 22 at 10 a.m. and noon and Sept. 23rd at 10 a.m. Join Dr. Charles O'Connor as he shares the internal workings of the Slough on this guided walk through the water.
A $10 donation to the Friends of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve per person, ages 10 and up, is requested of the participants. Reservations must be made by contacting Dr. O'Conner at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 533-7557.
Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet, bring a towel and complete change of clothes.
