Cape Coral woman facing multiple charges following crash

A Cape Coral woman accused of driving under the influence and crashing with her child in the vehicle remained in jail Friday on more than a dozen charges.

Shanna Marie Coburn-Rice, 26, of 1157 S.W. 47th Terrace, was arrested Tuesday and charged with cruelty toward child urge other to act result physical mental injury, DUI unlawful blood alcohol .15 or higher or with person under 18, DUI with damage property and criminal mischief $200 and under.

She was also charged with three counts of resist officer with violence.

According to jail records, Coburn-Rice was additionally booked on:

* One count of larceny petit theft from farmer

* One count of resist office obstruct without violence

* One count of violate driver’s license restrictions

* One count of refuse to submit to DUI test after license suspended

* Two counts of hit and run leave scene of crash involve damage to property

* Two counts of DUI unlawful blood alcohol .15 or higher or with person under 18

n Four counts of DUI with damage property

She remains in custody at the Lee County Jail without bond.

At about 4 a.m. Tuesday, an anonymous caller reported a single-vehicle accident at 2030 N.E. Second Terrace. Cape police arrived to find a 1999 Dodge Durango had collided with a telephone pole in front of a residence.

According to a report, Coburn-Rice was observed in the driver’s seat, and there was damage to the SUV’s front bumper, sides and rear. Coburn-Rice’s daughter was inside of the Dodge and was a passenger during the accident.

Police reported that Coburn-Rice had damaged a concrete utility box.

She allegedly stated that she was working before picking up her daughter from the hospital and heading home, then reportedly stated that she was out with some of her co-workers at a bar and left because it was “no place” for her child.

According to the report, Coburn-Rice also stated that she was at the bar and then picked up her daughter from the baby sitter’s only a few streets away.

Police asked her to participate in field sobriety tests, which she did. After participating in the tests, Coburn-Rice was arrested. She allegedly had to be carried to a police vehicle, then she kicked at and attempted to bite police.

The Department of Children and Families was notified and Coburn-Rice’s daughter was released into the care of a relative, according to the report.

She has court dates scheduled for Sept. 25 and 28 and Oct. 8 and 22.
