Members of the Rotary Club of Lehigh Acres are giving every fourth grade student in Lehigh Acres their very own thesaurus.
"We started visiting the elementary schools on Tuesday, September 12 and planned to finish this year's project on Friday, September 21. The idea behind this project is to provide fourth grade students in public schools with their own personal thesaurus, with no cost to the student or school. The thesaurus, combined with the dictionary they received in the third grade, is for the student to keep, so that they can use it throughout their school career," said Mike Buff, the project coordinator with the local Rotary club.
The Lehigh Acres club planned to hand out more than 1400 thesauruses to fourth grade students at G. Weaver Hipps, Harns Marsh, Lehigh, Mirror Lakes, Sunshine, Tortuga Preserve, Veterans Park, Alva, and Gateway Elementary schools also included is Lehigh Charter School of Excellence.

"The Rotary Club of Lehigh Acres is the only club that hands out thesauruses in Lee County. On Friday, November 2, we will join with the other 12 Rotary clubs in Lee County to hand out dictionaries to all third grade students in Lee County.
"We are able to do this community project and others because of the tremendous support we receive from the community of Lehigh Acres at our fund raising events. Our next event will be Blues and Brews Fest, held on Saturday, November 10, at Mirror Lakes Golf Club.
