Hope Hospice receives $15,565 from tourney

The 8th annual Fillet and Release Tournament on Sept. 15 raised $15,565 in donations for Hope Hospice. The record event had 61 teams entered for the tournament and 49 teams weighed in with fish at Matanzas Inn on Fort Myers Beach.

First place winning team "Type One," with Jason Shimko and Gary White, received $9,555. Other placed winners were second place "Yamaha" team, with Ozzie Fischer and Ozzie Lessinger, at $2,730; third place "Renegade" team, with Brian Harris, Troy Gale and Dillon Massie, at $1,365; and Cassandra Pulice with the Largest Redfish, at 7.55 pounds.

The tournament has been consistent with entry growth, as well as donations since its first year in 2005 with 10 boats. It turned public in 2007with 24 team entries, raising $1,000 for Hope Hospice.
