Carlos Noboa and his family of Fred Avenue in Lehigh Acres are enjoying the final days of summer at their home with a complete backyard makeover, including grill, outside furniture, and more, thanks to the local Ace hardware store on Homestead Road and the national ACE organization in addition to County Music Television.

Noboa entered the contest in July and little did he know that he was to become the number one national winner of the ACE backyard contest with more than $4,000 worth of items to have the perfect barbeque. He was randomly selected from more than 109,750 online entries.

Officially, he was named the grand prize winner of "BBQ Week: Get Grilling" sweepstakes, an initiative that pairs Ace's local know-how with CMT's BBQ expertise to help turn homeowners grilling to-do lists into a "to-done" list.

Lehigh Acres resident Carlos Noboa is the national winner of a $backyard makeover contest from ACE hardware and Country Music Television. He is shown reclining in front of the $4,000 makeover. In the background are several of the items that he won.

Noboa said he never expected to be the overall national winner, but that was a great feeling when he got the information that he was the overall winner. The makeover occurred last week.

After the local Ace hardware store, which is located on Homestead Rd., did the "makeover," Noboa was the first to sit back in a lounge chair overlooking the back lanai with all the new prizes.

And it didn't take long for the Noboa family to try out a steak cooked on the new stainless steel grill.

The makeover was done by the experts at Vision Ace Hardware in Lehigh and included a new state of the art grill as well as updates to the Noboa family's outdoor living space, including new patio furniture and dcor, said Lou Manfredini, Ace's home expert.

"Through our collaboration with CMT we are able to provide the Noboa family with the ultimate BBW-inspired backyard makeover and utilize CNMT's large fan base to provide homeowners across America with the expert advice that many have come to expect from Ace Hardware," he said.

Manfredini has some recommendations to keep grills running at peak performance this season and for years to come.

"Protect it by simply shielding your outdoor grill from the elements with a grill cover which can substantially extend its life. Clean it and keep scrubbing pads, wire brushes and degreaser on hand to clean your grill regularly.

"Always be sure to clean beyond the grates, down into the burner plates. Get new parts it when worn out grates, burner plates, "flavorizer" bars, gas valves and igniters are ready to be replaced. They are often easy to replace and will vastly improve your grill's performance and increase its lifespan," he said.

For more than 85 years, Ace Hardware has been known as the helpful hardware store in thousands of communities across America," Manfredini said.

There are some 4,600 locally-owned and independently operated stores in the country.
