Coalition celebrates Red Ribbon Week
The Lee County Coalition for a Drug-Free Southwest Florida is celebrating National Red Ribbon Week with a free Community Family Health Fair
The fair will take place Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, at 1500 Lee Ave.
The event is free and open to the public.
Free photographs of children and families will be taken, courtesy of Associates and Bruce L. Scheiner, on a first come-first served basis.
Haley Hinds, of WINK-TV, will be signing autographs and meeting guests.
Free car seat fittings will be offered in the parking lot by the Safe Kids Coalition. No appointment necessary.
Twenty-five community organizations and groups will provide health and prevention information for parents and fun activities for children.
The Red Ribbon Campaign was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA Agent Kiki Camerena in 1985. This began the tradition of displaying a red ribbon as an anti-drug symbol.
National Red Ribbon Week is celebrated Oct. 23-31.
