Musical theater alive, well

Lehigh Acres Middle School recently presented songs and scenes from classics as "The Sound of Music," "Carousel," "Les Miserables" and "Peter Pan." Some 56 students performed. The theatrical presentation was preceded by dinner catered by Bob Evans' restaurant and served by volunteers from the PTO and LAMS staff.

Middle School cheerleaders give back to the community

Thanks to the Lehigh Acres Middle School cheerleaders, more than 75 brown bag lunches including a sandwich, drink, chips and cookies have been delivered to the Immokalee Friendship House. It is the only shelter in the Immokalee community for the homeless and hungry.

School awarded silver, gold

Lehigh Acres Middle School will be recognized at the Nov. 7 Lee County School Board meeting as a "Silver and Gold School" for the 2011-12 school year. The Silver Award reflects a total of student volunteer hours, and the Golden Award reflects adult and parent participation of volunteer hours given to the school.

Good news from LAMS is the significant increase in parent participation at the school SAC-PTO meetings. The meetings are held once a month in the school's Media Center and parents and community members can attend. For information, call 369-6108.
