Libertarian Party of Lee County to meet
The Libertarian Party of Lee County will hold its next meeting from 7-8:45 p.m. today, Nov. 7, in the Judge Landis Room of Shoeless Joe's, in the Crowne Plaza at Bell Tower. Dinner is self pay and is served from 7-7:45. The program, a business meeting and group discussion on the topic "2012 election in review" follows. Commissioner to speak at monthly luncheon
Lee County Commissioner John Manning will be the featured speaker at the monthly luncheon of the Fort Myers Republican Women's Club on Nov. 13. He will provide an overview of current issues facing the commission.
The public is invited to attend the luncheon and the program at The Helm Club, The Landings, in South Fort Myers. A social hour begins at 11:15 a.m., with the noon lunch, business meeting and program to follow. The cost is $16.

Free autism screening
The Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida, in partnership with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Florida, offers a free monthly autism spectrum disorder screening for toddlers 18 months to 5 years old.
The next screening will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 9 at the McDonald's, at 12990 S. Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers.
The screenings are administered by an advanced registered nurse practitioner, who has extensive training and experience in typical child development and developmental disorders. A physician referral is not required.

Center to host Veteran's Day Dinner Dance
Erich will perform from 7-10 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Lehigh Acres Senior Center for the Veteran's Day Dinner Dance. Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner, featuring fried chicken and apple pie.
Tickets on sale now at the Lehigh Acres Senior Center office for $12. The public is invited. Proceeds from the fund-raiser benefit the recreation center.
Residents can apply for Thanksgiving baskets
The public can apply for free Thanksgiving baskets until Nov. 9 at the Lehigh Community Services office, at 201 Plaza Drive. Applicants can fill out a form at the office to see if they qualify.
Last year, close to 300 families were given baskets with food and certificates. Several organizations have donated food and gift certificates this year.
To contribute a turkey, organizers suggest buying a gift certificate, especially for turkey, at one of the local supermarkets. People can also donate canned goods.
Elks Lodge 1288 to celebrate centennial
The Fort Myers Elk's Lodge 1288 will have a dinner and dance Nov. 9 celebrating its Centennial Celebration, along with the Elk's Mid-Year Convention. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.

Georgian is featured author at book fair
Local author Richard Georgian is the featured author at the Fifth Annual Used Book Fair and Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at Faith Lutheran Church. Arts and craft booths are included, and other authors from the Gulf Coast Writers Association will have their books available.
Georgian received The Stuart Thayer Prize for his book, "Cossacks, Indians and Buffalo Bill," from the Circus Historical Society this summer. The award is presented to the author of the best new work concerning the history of American circuses and Wild West Shows.
Annual Community Yard Sale planned in Alva
The Annual Community Yard Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Alva Community Park, at 21471 N. River Road. Reserve a space for $5; adults must work the tables. For information, call 728-2882.
Lee County Community Band season premiere
The 63-member Lee County Community Band kicks off its 127th season at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 with the first of six monthly Sunday afternoon concerts.
All performances are at Cape Coral High School, at 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd. The events are free of charge, though donations are accepted. The additional concert dates are Dec. 9, Jan. 13, Feb. 10, March 10 and April 7.
Band members are musicians from all walks of life - career musicians, amateurs and folks renewing skills from years past - who reside in Lee, Collier, and Charlotte counties.
The band rehearses from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays at St. Michael's Lutheran School in Fort Myers; new members are welcome.

Fund-raiser by storage firm to aid Lions
Southern Self Storage is hosting a fund-raiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at 3232 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers. There will be space for people to sell their items.
The cost is $20 per space and the money will be donated to the Lions Club for eye screenings. There will be a bounce house, deejay, food and face painting. Raffle prized will be handed out.

Archers registering new participants
The Lee County Archers are registering new participants. The following events take place at the Nalle Grade County Park Range in North Fort Myers:
- Nov. 15: Public invited from 2 to 8 p.m. Open ranges include a 20-yard lighted covered pavilion, a 30- to 80-yard lighted outdoor range, and a 28-target field range.
- Nov. 18: 3D Archery Shoot. A roving field range consisting of 20 3D target stations and a 14-station N.F.A.A. field course. Sign up from 8-8:30 a.m., with shotgun start at 9 a.m. A $10 shooting fee applies.
- Dec. 1: 900 Round at 9 a.m.

Free admission to bonsai show, sale
The Annual Bonsai Show & Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 17-18 at the Lee County Election Center, at 13180 Cleveland Ave. S., Fort Myers. Sponsored by the Bonsai Society of Southwest Florida, event admission and parking are free.
The event will feature bonsai exhibits and critiques, workshops and demonstrations, raffles, silent auctions, and sales of bonsai trees and supplies. Vendors will be present to assist buyers with bonsai needs and supplies.

Annual Golf Outing to benefit LCS
Lehigh Community Services will hold its Annual Golf Outing on Dec. 1 at Westminster Golf Club on Leonard Avenue, with a shotgun tee-off at 8 a.m.
Entry fee is $60 and includes continental breakfast, greens fee, golf cart, luncheon and prizes. Sponsorships in the range of $100 to $500 are available, a hole sign is only $50.
