Robert J. Watson, 62, of Lehigh Acres, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres. He was born June 1, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio.
He and his family lived in various states throughout the years before moving to South Florida in 2002. With years of success in business at the executive level behind him, he, along with two of his closest friends, created a successful small business, which is still thriving today.
An avid sports fan, he had a passion for the Ohio State University football team, as well as playing countless rounds of golf with family and friends. However, nothing seemed to give him more pleasure than having his close group of family and friends together for gatherings and spending quality time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carol Watson of Lehigh Acres; daughter, Renee (Carl) Bierbaum of Lehigh Acres; sons, Kyle (Ryanne) Watson of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., and David Watson of Southaven, Miss.; brothers, William and Jesse of Columbus, Ohio, and Michael of California; sister, Linda of Columbus, Ohio; friends, John Shields of Estero, Fla., and Russ Skulina of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Lauren and CJ Bierbaum and Trent and Grant Watson; several other family and friends around the country; and his beautiful English bulldog, Blossom.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Richard and Betty of Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Carolyn of Oklahoma.
A visitation was held Nov. 8, 2012, at Hodges Funeral Home in Fort Myers. The funeral service followed on Nov. 9 at Blessed Pope John XXIII Catholic Church, in Fort Myers.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, at 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513 or: www.jimmyv.org. Donations may also be made in his memory to Hope Hospice.
