FGCU hosted its 10th Annual Invitational Mathematics Competition on Dec. 5.
A record number of schools and students participated, making it the largest mathematics competition in Florida.
Sixty schools and 1,300 students from all areas of Florida enjoyed a day of mathematics to showcase their schools' academic prowess.
The two highlights of the day for Lee County Public Schools were:
n Alex Garcia, from Fort Myers High, winning first place out of 229 students in the calculus division with a perfect score
n Joshua Kennedy, from Cypress Lake Middle, outpacing the algebra II field of 224 students winning that division.
By winning their respective divisions, both students were awarded a full four-year scholarship to FGCU
Others winners in the competition included:
n Algebra I team: Varsity Lakes Middle, second place
n Algebra I individual: Luke Chin A Foeng, Varsity Lakes Middle, third place
n Aaliyah Richlen, Varsity Lakes Middle, fifth Place
n Jared Lovett, Varsity Lakes Middle, 11th Place
