Robert Charles Krebs

Robert Charles Krebs, 94, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Hope Hospice House in Lehigh Acres. He was born June 25, 1918, in Dover, Ohio, to Charles F. and Caroline Barbara (Kratz) Krebs.

He had one older brother, Homer, and an older half-brother, Walter. He married Iva Elizabeth Hamblin on April 12, 1941, and they were together for more than 68 years until her death in January.

He retired from the U.S. Army as a chief warrant officer after serving more than 27 years, from August 1937 to March 1965.

Throughout his military career, he served in various duty stations, including Fort Knox, Ky.; Korea; Tokyo, Japan; Marysville, Calif.; Heidelberg, Germany; San Antonio, Texas; Nurnberg, Germany; and Fort Campbell, Ky.

After retiring from the Army, he moved his family to Lehigh Acres. He worked as a staff accountant at Lehigh Acres General Hospital and worked there for 11 years supervising the performance of all duties related to the hospital’s accounting department. He retired from the hospital in 1976.

He and his wife moved to Beacon Square, a senior community in Lehigh.

Following his wife’s death, he moved to Fountain Crest.

He was a member of Buckingham Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Johnny) Mitchell, Margaret (Joe) Elyard and Roberta (Dan) Jerz; grandchildren, Stacey Mitchell Roesch, Barbara “Buffy” Mitchell Miller, Valerie Kilpatrick Lindsey, Aarron Elyard, James Elyard and Robert Raybuck; and great-grandchildren, Emily and Nicholas Roesch, Bryan “BJ” and Bradley Miller, Cody Lindsey and Willow Rose Raybuck.

He was predeceased by his wife, Iva; daughter, Carolyn Krebs Kilpatrick; grandson, Billy Neil Kilpatrick; and brother, Homer Krebs.

Viewing and services were held Friday, Dec 28, 2012, at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park. The Rev. Randy Moody, of Buckingham Presbyterian Church, officiated.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Buckingham Presbyterian Church, 4241 Buckingham Road, Fort Myers, FL 33905.
