American classic opens at Florida Repertory Theatre

By Staff | Jan 9, 2013

Florida Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Lillian Hellman’s electrifying and powerful drama, “The Little Foxes,” a story of one family’s greed, playing now through Jan 26.

This milestone in modern drama – made famous by the 1940 film starring Bette Davis – is an American classic as timely today as it was seven decades ago.

“The Little Foxes” is the story of one family’s greed, deception and betrayal and has been thrilling audiences for over 70 years.

A truly gripping play, it follows the Hubbards, a wealthy turn-of-the-century Southern family, as they try to outwit and outmaneuver one another in a dangerous game of fiscal gluttony and familial corruption.

The production features an all-star line up of Florida Rep ensemble members, including Craig Bockhorn (“Lend Me a Tenor”), Mark Chambers (“Tru”), Carrie Lund (“God of Carnage”), Sara Morsey (“August: Osage County”) and Peter Thomasson (“Black Tie”).

It also features Lindsay Clemmons (“Lend Me a Tenor”), Brian Hatch (“Camping with Henry & Tom”), Darrick Penny, who is making his Florida Rep debut, and local actors Dick Boyd (“You Can’t Take It with You”) and Patricia Idlette (“Doubt”).

Ensemble member Maureen Heffernan (“Sylvia”) directs the production and is joined by an expert team of ensemble designers and Florida Rep veterans, including set designer Ray Recht (“Black Tie”), lighting designer David M. Upton (“Camping with Henry and Tom”), costume designer Roberta Malcolm (“Red”), sound designer Kate Smith (“Talley’s Folly”) and production stage manager Amy L. Massari (“Lend Me a Tenor”).

Regular performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., with matinees on Wednesday, Sunday and selected Saturdays at 2 p.m.

“The Little Foxes” is sponsored by John & Marjorie Madden and Florida Weekly.
