A motorcyclist was transported to the Lee County trauma center Jan. 9 after he was run over following a traffic crash on Alabama Road near the intersection of Stafford Creek Boulevard in Lehigh Acres.
Authorities later reported that the condition of Marc Clark, 45, of Lehigh Acres, had improved at the hospital.
Preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle turned left from southbound Alabama Road to enter the Vista Palms community shortly before at 9:05 p.m., officials with the Lee County Sheriff's Office said.
Clark, who was traveling north, collided with the right-rear of the car. The motorcycle then veered toward a second vehicle traveling in the opposite direction and glanced off the side of it.
Clark fell from the motorcycle into the northbound roadway while the motorcycle came to rest in the southbound lane.
A witness to the crash stopped to render aid to Clark.
Meanwhile, a third vehicle approached in the northbound lane of Alabama Road. Despite the witness' attempts to warn the approaching driver, the vehicle struck Clark lying in the roadway.
Reportedly, nearby residents gathered and lifted the car, which had Clark pinned underneath. He was extricated and transported to the Trauma Center at Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition early Thursday morning.
Due to the nature of the crash, deputies with the Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit are continuing the investigation.
Alabama Road was closed for approximately and hour between Gifford Avenue North and Navajo Avenue.
No charges have been filed at this time, officials said. The investigation is continuing, officials said.
